In its latest blog post, This Week at Bungie, the studio outlined some changes headed to Destiny 2’s power slots in Season of the Drifter.

Destiny players have relied on Exotic power weapons for months, leaving their kinetic and energy Exotics to rot in the vault. Players have been rotating Sleeper Simulant, Whisper of the Worm and Thunderlord in and out of their power slots, ignoring non-Exotic power weapons.

In Season of the Drifter, Bungie is buffing legendary power weapons — specifically grenade and rocket launchers.

Grenade launchers are getting a 25 percent damage bump for PvE activities, as well as an increase to reserve ammo. According to Bungie, heavy weapon grenade launchers had some problems with ammo that made them less desirable for players. The developer has given most grenade launchers more ammo. Combined with the damage buff, this should make them more feasible in raid and strike content.

Rocket launchers are getting a 60 to 65 percent damage bump. Conversely, the Cluster Bomb perk is being nerfed by 80 percent. Bungie states that Cluster Bombs were too good but too inconsistent, making them situational.

To solve this problem, rockets will now deal higher raw damage, with clusters being a nice bonus in certain situations.

It’s worth noting that Cluster Bombs have been key to certain strategies in Destiny 2. Cluster Bomb rockets are used to glitch Riven of a Thousand Voices, the final raid boss of the Last Wish raid — allowing players to kill her much quicker than intended.

However, Destiny raider Gladd proves in the clip below that this strategy is still effective with grenade launchers — even without the 25 percent buff.

These power slot changes shouldn’t alter many of the game’s current strategies. Instead, they’ll allow players to choose other weapons without feeling like they’re missing out on damage.
