Microsoft is rumored to be working on a new subscription tier for Xbox Game Pass called Xbox Game Pass Ultimate that would bundle Xbox Live Gold as part of the service. The Ultimate tier of Game Pass will reportedly be priced at $14.99 per month, a $5 premium on top of the standard $9.99 monthly price.
An Xbox Live Gold/Xbox Game Pass bundle has long been rumored, but on Friday, well known Microsoft leaker h0X0d posted on Twitter that it was finally happening. Brad Sams of Thurrott later seconded the report, with The Verge reporting something similar. When reached for comment, a Microsoft spokesperson told Polygon, “We do not comment on rumors or speculation.”
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate’s supposed pricing scheme would be a substantial savings for monthly Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Gold subscriptions cost $9.99 on a month-to-month basis. But the rumored pricing would match what it costs to subscribe to Game Pass monthly and get Xbox Live Gold annually (about $180 total). Xbox owners can often get deals on annual and three-month subscriptions to Gold, making Ultimate more of a savings if you’re going month to month or prefer a bit of convenience.
The new Xbox Game Pass tier is supposedly slated to hit alongside a new model of the Xbox One S that ditches the optical disc drive and is geared toward streaming and downloading. That disc-less Xbox One model is rumored to arrive in May, with pre-orders expected to go live in April.
